Food & Music Festivals You Must See This Summer

Every summer there are tons of awesome music and food festivals taking place around the country. So if you’ve been kicking around a few ideas on where you should take the motor home this season, try something different, get some culture, and have a blast while doing it. Be sure to pick your poison wisely though, because not every event would be what we consider “family friendly” (see Sturgis – a weeklong motorcycle rally in South Dakota…probably not the best place to bring the wife and kids but definitely a place for you and the boys). Here are our top 3 festival picks that you must check out this summer.

1.    Chicago Blues Fest – June 13 – 15

This event has been taking place every summer in Chicago’s Grant Park since 1984, a year after Blues legend Muddy Waters passed away. With over a half a million attendees, the Chicago Blues Fest is by far the largest musical event to take place in Chi-town. Blues fest has featured acts such as Ray Charles, BB King, Buddy Guy and more…no wonder Chicago is famed as one of the greatest Blues towns in the country. As far as food goes, there are tons of vendors serving up pizza, barbeque, and other Chicago classics. However, beware because lines can get a little out of control. It may be a good idea to pack a few sandwiches to avoid missing great performances because of the long lines. Oh, and did we mention that this festival is completely free? Bonus!

The World Food & Music Festival has been growing into the spectacle that it is today since 2005. Set in Des Moines, Iowa, this event began as simply The World Food Festival, but as time went on and a greater emphasis on showcasing local talent became more and more important, local musical acts became part of the show. The World Food & Music fest now attracts more than 75,000 spectators, features cooking contests and demonstrations from locals and nationally recognized chefs alike, and multiple stages of live music. At its roots, this event is a great way for the city of Des Moines to promote its culture and beauty. If you haven’t taken a trip to the Midwest before, this would be a good opportunity to do so.
