2015 Forest River Berkshire 400QL

If and when you start shopping for a new diesel pusher motor home, you’ll undoubtedly be pointed in the direction of a Forest River Berkshire at some point along your journey. Forest River has long been touted as the standard in motor home superiority – a perfect combination of luxury, reliability, drivability, and overall quality. According to Statistical Surveys, Forest River Class A motor homes were the most popular coaches in the country in 2013 with a market share of just over 25%. It is no wonder why the Forest River brand, particularly the Berkshire model, is many motor home dealers’ bread and butter. Here, we’ll review one of the most popular floor plans of one of the most popular diesel pushers available today; the 2015 Forest River Berkshire QL.

The Power

Like most Class A diesel coaches, the Berkshire was designed to withstand long road trips and rigorous road conditions without having to sacrifice ease of driving or comfort while doing so. The 400QL is constructed on a Freightliner XC-Series chassis and rides on front and rear Neway air suspension systems and Sachs custom tuned shock absorbers. What does that mean for you? An extremely smooth ride that makes even the roughest of roads go unnoticed when traveling them. The comfort of the ride of the Berkshire is just half of what makes driving these coaches so great, however. Forest River Berkshire’s come standard with a Cummins ISB turbo diesel 6.7 liter 340HP engine with options to upgrade to over 800 ft lb of torque. There is also a 10,000 pound hitch, so towing a boat, car, or any other toys you need on your next trip won’t be a problem what-so-ever. Bottom line: the last complaint you’ll ever have about a Berkshire diesel pusher is a lack of power.

The Exterior

At a glance, the 400QL is a beautifully constructed coach with custom, full body paint and 4 slideouts, but that is simply the beginning of what makes the exterior of this unit so great. Diamond Shield paint protection film will keep the Berkshire looking as vibrant and crisp as the day you pulled it off the lot for years to come. Hehr frameless dual pane, tinted windows give this coach a sleek look while maintaining privacy inside the cabin. Forest River also gives owners the option to add an outdoor entertainment center fully equipped with an LCD television and outdoor speakers that can be covered by a full length, electric awning that comes standard. Traveling with lots of luggage and toys? No problem here. The Berkshire has multiple exterior compartment doors with full pass through storage so owners can utilize the entire 8’4” width of the coach to stow their extras safely and comfortably without having to cram too many things inside the cabin. Other exterior features include a 24.5 gallon propane tank, a two-piece rear ladder, wheel covers, a full length mud flap with chrome trim, and a tankless water heater with continuous flow.

The Interior

If you thought that the exterior of the Berkshire 400QL was amazing, wait until you step inside the cabin. Forest River has done an outstanding job of building motor homes that have that coveted “Wow” factor and the 400QL is no exception. The 4 slideouts, when opened, give the midship of the coach tons of added floor space, which is a great feature when traveling with multiple passengers. One of the main differences in the 400QL when compared to other Berkshire floor plans is the design of the cabin living space. An L-shaped leather couch (with sleeper bed) and angled entertainment center (complete with a 42” LCD television and a gas fireplace) give the feel of being in a completely separate room, although they are just steps away from the state-of-the-art kitchen and dining area. Love to prepare home cooked meals while you’re on vacation? Perfect! A full kitchen with tons of counter space (and an extendable prep board) along with solid corian countertops, 30” stainless steel convection microwave oven, a full sized stainless steel refrigerator, and twin sinks make dining in a dream.

Other interior features include: a half bath in the midship, LED lighting throughout the cabin, stackable washer and dryer, full extension metal drawer guides with ball bearings throughout, beautifully crafted tile flooring, blackout shades, and a padded ceiling.
