July 4th weekend is upon us and nothing says American patriotism like an insane fireworks display! For those of you who don’t already have plans for the holiday weekend and are on board with a shotgun road trip, here are the 3 best fireworks displays in the country that you must see.

Philadelphia, PA

For all of you local Dylans RV fans, take your pick of awesome fireworks shows on either the 4th or 5th. On the 4th, head to the Ben Franklin Parkway for one of the most elaborate fireworks displays you’ll ever see at one of the most historical and recognizable sites in the country, the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Set up along West River Drive for a perfect, unobstructed view of the show over the Schuylkill River. If you’re not able to make this show or thought it was so good that you just need to catch another, park it up at one of the (motor home friendly) parking lots next to the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ for a great view across the Delaware River for a picturesque view of the fireworks, amazing pyrotechnics show, and the Philadelphia skyline serving as the backdrop for it all. Regardless of which display you see, it doesn’t get more American than celebrating Independence Day in the birthplace of America.

Chicago, IL

If you happen to be in the Chicagoland area this coming weekend, make your way to Navy Pier to see their incredible 4th of July celebratory fireworks show. Navy Pier extends about a mile out into Lake Michigan and is home to some of the most family oriented fun in the area. Featuring theaters, museums, shopping, and restaurants it’s no wonder why this place draws nearly 9 million visitors a year. If you get there early this holiday weekend, you’ll be able to enjoy a full day of music, food, and craft beer and then get a seat on a charter cruise boat for the best views of the fireworks displays beginning at 9:30pm.

San Diego, CA

The Big Bay fireworks show is a spectacular event that takes place every Independence Day in San Diego’s North Bay. The fireworks are set off on 4 different barges that are strategically situated throughout the bay and have been drawing over a half million spectators every year. Just under 20 minutes long, this fireworks show is known to be one of the most technically advanced displays in the country and, like many others, is set to a musical soundtrack that coincides with each firework being set off. Part of what makes this show so great is that because of its size, it can be seen from several different vantage points. Set up at Shelter Island, Harbor Island, North Embarcadero, the Marina District, Seaport Village, or the Coronado Ferry Landing for the best views.

Whether you’re planning on lighting a few sparklers in your backyard or are going to a full blown, epic fireworks show at one of these great locations this year, make sure you’re spending your holiday weekend with good friends and family. Grab a blanket, a lawn chair, and a cold drink, and sit back and enjoy the show.
